TRENTON, Maine — Two local men are facing misdemeanor charges after the vehicles they were driving collided with one another on Route 3, according to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident happened about 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, when Christian L. Austin, 29, was driving a 1995 Toyota Camry south on the state route, Deputy Jeff McFarland wrote on a incident summary. Traveling behind Austin’s vehicle in the same direction was a 2003 Dodge Caravan driven by Ricky D. Skillings, 54, McFarland indicated.
Austin felt Skillings was following too closely and so tapped his brakes “to warn [Skillings] to back off,” McFarland wrote in the summary. Skillings allegedly failed to heed the warning, which prompted Austin to brake again, according to the deputy. Skillings vehicle then ran into the back of Austin’s Toyota.
The collision caused an estimated $100 damage to Austin’s car and $1,500 in damage to Skillings’ vehicle, McFarland indicated. No resulting injuries were reported for either man.
According to the deputy, Austin was summoned on a charge of suddenly reducing speed and Skillings was summoned on a charge of following too closely.
