FORT KENT, Maine — Former Dexter High School basketball standout Ashley Ames will lead a class of four inductees into the University of Maine-Fort Kent Athletic Hall of Fame at 5 p.m. Saturday, March 23 at the UMFK Sports Center.

Ames, UMFK class of 2010, will be inducted along with former UMFK men’s soccer standouts Melik Khoury (1999) and Barrington Blake (2011). James “Pop” Hoyt (1917), who will be recognized in UMFK’s builder/administrator category, will be posthumously inducted.

AMES set UMFK basketball records in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots during a three-year career. She also earned Sunrise Conference and all-New England honors in volleyball. Ames is also a two-time academic All-American.

KHOURY was the goalkeeper for a successful men’s team during his undergraduate years at UMFK. He later translated that playing success to coaching as he led his team to a Sunrise Conference championship and several Potato Barrel championships over County rival UM-Presque Isle

BLAKE is a three-time all-star selection in both the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and United States Collegiate Athletic Association All-American teams as a defender during his four-year career. He led UMFK to four Sunrise Conference championships, an NAIA top-eight finish, and to a 2010 USCAA national championship. His teams compiled a record of 80-4-3 in his four years.

HOYT, a 1917 graduate of the then Madawaska Training School, was a long-time friend to UMFK and its athletic department. He has been described as the right-hand man to longtime coach and athletic director, Lowell “Ozzie” Osgood. Hoyt assisted student-athletes with their housing and transportation needs.

Those seeking more information on the ceremony or for ticket purchase can contact the UMFK University Relations Office at 834-7557.
