BANGOR, Maine — The Maine Basketball Hall of Fame has invited the members of the Eastern Maine Class A girls basketball champion Bangor High School Rams and the state Class A boys champion Hampden Academy Broncos to participate in Saturday’s Final Buzzer Shoot Around at the Bangor Auditorium.
It’s part of the festivities as the clock winds down on the Bangor landmark, which will be torn down later this year.
The players will join Saturday’s 2:30 p.m. session for players, coaches and officials who participated in the EM and state tournament games at the auditorium from 2001 to 2012.
The Hall of Fame, organizer of the event, also is inviting members of all Maine communities’ high school teams to take a shot with and against the Rams and Broncos.
According to the most recent press release, the fee is $5 per person. Participants will get a commemorative T-shirt and a chance to engage in low-impact games on the Auditorium floor. Spectators also will be allowed in for $5 a person or $10 for a family. All proceeds go to the Maine Basketball Hall of Fame, which will establish a permanent site at the Auditorium’s replacement, the Cross Insurance Center next door.
The first session Saturday (for years 1956-1974) runs from 9:30 a.m. to noon and session No. 2 for years 1975-2000 goes from noon to 2:30 p.m.
On Sunday, the general public will have its own Shoot Around session from noon to 4 p.m. That fee is $5 per person, $10 per family, and players who wear their school or youth club jersey get to shoot at no charge.
