Troy man about to be charged with child sex crime shoots himself

By Abigail Curtis, BDN Staff

TROY, Maine — A man shot himself at his home in Troy on Wednesday afternoon as he was about to be arrested and charged with the sexual exploitation of a minor, according to Stephen McCausland of the Maine State Police.

The man, whom police are not naming pending notification of his relatives, was wounded and has been taken to a hospital, according to a press release issued Wednesday afternoon by the police spokesman.

When detectives went to the man’s home on Barker Road to arrest him, the man reportedly refused to answer the door. Detectives asked for help from the Maine State Police tactical team. Shortly after the team arrived, the man shot himself with a .22 caliber rifle, McCausland reported. No police officers were involved in the shooting, he said in the release.
