NEWCASTLE, Maine — A Newcastle man was charged with possession of a firearm by a prohibited person Tuesday after the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department executed a search warrant at his home.

This is the second time Robert Wallace, 54, has faced that charge, according to Lincoln County Sheriff’s Lt. Michael Murphy.

The search warrant was the result of an investigation into the allegation that Wallace was a convicted felon in illegal possession of firearms. Wallace was convicted in 1980 of aggravated assault and in 1997 of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, according to a press release from Murphy. Under Maine law, convicted felons are barred from possessing firearms.

During the search, two rifles were seized along with rounds of ammunition. Wallace reportedly was arrested without incident and taken to Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset for processing.
