DEXTER, Maine — An Abbot woman was arrested on Sunday after allegedly assaulting another woman outside a bar.

The Dover-Foxcroft Police Department was contacted about a woman with “several facial injuries” at Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft early Sunday morning, said Dexter Police Chief Kevin Wintle on Monday.

The woman said she was assaulted outside Dexter Motor Lodge at about 1 a.m. on Sunday, said Wintle.

“It’s alleged that the motor lodge was closing up and two girls had a verbal altercation and the victim was struck in the face,” said Wintle.

Samantha Hunt, 29, was located at her Abbot home at about 2 p.m. Sunday by the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department. Hunt was arrested and transported to the Dexter town line, where she was turned over to the Dexter Police Department.

She was taken to the station and charged with aggravated assault, a Class B crime. Hunt was released from the Dexter Police Department on $1,000 unsecured bail.

Hunt is due to appear at the Penobscot County Judicial Center on May 16.

The injured woman has since been released from the hospital, said Wintle.

The incident remains under investigation, he added. Dexter police officers Dana Gatcomb and Rob Durgin assisted on the arrest.
