FORT KENT, Maine — Maine Winter Sports Center biathletes Raleigh Goessling and Cody Johnson each recorded their third straight victories Sunday in their respective age divisions during the mass start event of the USA Biathlon Championships Sunday at the 10th Mountain Center.
Sunday’s victories followed up first-place finishes on Saturday in the pursuit and on Friday in the sprint.
Goessling, competing in the senior men’s division (ages 21 and over), compiled a time of 38 minutes, 57.4 seconds over a 12.5-kilometer course in the pursuit, an event in which biathletes’ starts are separated by their time differences from a previous race, Friday’s sprint.
Goessling missed five targets in the shooting portion of the event.
On Sunday, Goessling recorded a time of 43:36.9 over a 15K course in the mass start, in which all biathletes start at the same time and the first across the finish line wins. He missed six targets.
