SACO, Maine — A man found slumped over in his car in a restaurant parking lot early Saturday was ultimately arrested, police said Wednesday.
Officers patrolling Main Street around 2:15 a.m. found a vehicle with its lights on in the Amato’s parking lot, Saco Deputy Chief Jeffrey Holland said. The eatery closes at 10 p.m., he said.
When police went to investigate, they found the driver, 26-year-old Aaron Gouzie of Portland, asleep at the wheel with the vehicle running, Holland said.
Gouzie and his vehicle reeked of alcohol when police went to speak with him, the deputy chief said, and he failed several field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest.
Gouzie was charged with operating under the influence and aggravated habitual offender, which Holland said was elevated to a Class B felony due to Gouzie having a prior OUI conviction on his record.
Gouzie was taken to York County Jail and released the following day on $1,000 bail.
