BANGOR, Maine — A local man was charged Tuesday night with violation of privacy after a female neighbor looked up while taking a shower and noticed a cellphone between the ceiling tiles, police said.

The 24-year old woman met with Officer Richard Polk at the police station at 9:45 p.m. Tuesday to report that her privacy had been violated by Carl Farrar, 26, according to Sgt. Paul Edwards.

Farrar’s Essex Street apartment unit is located directly above the woman’s apartment.

The woman told police she noticed the cellphone above her between the ceiling tiles in her bathroom, according to Edwards. Farrar allegedly had placed the phone in that spot to take photographs of the woman in the shower.

“She stated that she tried to grab it but it was pulled back before she could get it,” the sergeant said.

The victim also said that Farrar knocked on her door to apologize and deleted the images from the phone, according to Edwards.

Farrar was summoned for violation of privacy, a Class D misdemeanor, the sergeant said. His first court appearance is scheduled for April 1.
