FORT MYERS, Fla. — Boston Red Sox pitcher Drake Britton, a 23-year-old in his first big-league camp, was arrested on misdemeanor charges of reckless driving, driving under the influence, and property damage, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s office. ESPN reported the arrest Tuesday morning.
The arrest occurred at 4:42 a.m. Saturday, on Ben Hill Griffin Parkway in Estero, which is adjacent to Fort Myers. According to the arrest report, Britton, who was driving a 2008 black Chevrolet Silverado, was paced at a maximum speed of 111 miles an hour in a 45 mph zone.
Britton finished last season with the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs, where he was 4-7 with a 3.72 ERA in 16 starts, striking out 76 in 84⅔ innings. He was expected to be part of the starting rotation in Triple-A Pawtucket.
