HARPSWELL, Maine — The man accused of 32 counts of sex assault against a minor was aided in his crimes by a relative of the victim, police say.

Cumberland County sheriff’s deputies arrested Holly Colfer, 33, on Friday — three days after her live-in boyfriend, Amos Johnson, 38, was arrested and charged with multiple sex crimes.

Johnson is accused of sexually abusing a girl for a period of two years, beginning when she was 11.

Colfer was charged with endangering the welfare of a child — not because she participated in the alleged abuse, but because she allegedly knew about it and failed to report it, Cumberland County Sheriff’s Lt. Donald Foss told the Portland Press Herald.

Colfer was arrested and taken to the Cumberland County Jail on Friday and posted $ 1,000 bail.

Endangering the welfare of a child is punishable by as much as one year in prison.

Johnson was arrested Feb. 26 and charged with 32 counts of gross sexual assault.

An affidavit by Detective Trevor Cote in support of Johnson’s arrest said the girl reported two years of sex abuse to police on Feb. 26.

Colfer told police she knew about some of the abuse, and confirmed Johnson asked about a threesome involving her and the girl, according to the affidavit.

The girl is now in the custody of the state Department of Health and Human Services.

Johnson was being held on $100,000 property or $50,000 cash bail Monday and faces up to 25 years in prison on each count.
