BATH, Maine — A Topsham massage therapist charged with gross sexual assault in September 2012 pleaded not guilty to the charge Monday in Sagadahoc County Superior Court.

Lionel J. Beaucage, 55, of Brunswick was arrested Sept. 18 and charged with gross sexual assault stemming from a complaint lodged with Topsham police Sept. 8 that he inappropriately touched a woman at a Topsham fitness center where he works as a professional fitness trainer and licensed massage therapist.

Beaucage was arraigned Monday at Sagadahoc County Superior Court.

He was indicted on one count of felony unlawful sexual contact and two misdemeanor counts of unlawful sexual touching.

“He’s been indicted, but an indictment is just a piece of paper,” said Beaucage’s attorney Tim Zerillo of Zerillo Law LLC in Portland. “Now is the process where the defense will start to look at the discovery and will start to prepare a defense.

“We look forward to reviewing the evidence and we’ll make decisions from there,” Zerillo said Monday.

Beaucage “looks forward to his day in court,” he said.

The next scheduled court appearance for Beaucage is April 24 at West Bath District Court.
