BANGOR, Maine — As he was leaving his Fourth Street residence early one morning last week, a man said he noticed an acquaintance arrive and head toward his door.

The man told police he was too busy to talk with Seth M. Johansen, 20, who also lives on Fourth Street, but when he returned home later that day, at about 9:50 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 28, he found someone had been in his apartment, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said Monday.

“When he checked the door, it pushed right open like it had been forced open,” the sergeant said. “An undisclosed amount of money was missing.”

The man called police and Officers Derrek Laflin and Jason Stuart found Johansen and after interviewing him arrested him and charged him with felony Class B burglary and Class C theft, Edwards said. The two charges were elevated due to prior convictions, he said.

Johansen, who also was wanted for an outstanding warrant, faces a penalty of up to 10 years in prison for the burglary, if convicted. He was taken to Penobscot County Jail and remained there on Tuesday afternoon, a jail official said.
