OLD TOWN, Maine — Sometime after it got dark Monday night, someone or a group of people used black, blue and red spray paint to tag 10 downtown businesses and one residence with graffiti, Old Town police Officer Josh Loring said Tuesday.

Whoever did it spray painted “Rekap,” “Nig Nog,” the number 689, and other words on the residence and businesses, some that have video surveillance cameras, the officer said.

The first sign of graffiti was reported at 7:41 a.m. and the last report was taken at 8:42 a.m. Tuesday. Some of the graffiti was not new, the officer said.

“They started awhile back. It’s been street signs and small things,” Loring said. “Now, it’s getting bigger and now they’re doing houses.”

Those with information about the graffiti investigation can call Old Town Police at 827-3984.
