PORTLAND, Maine — Presque Isle’s Chandler Guerrette and Waynflete of Portland’s Martha Veroneau guided their teams to high school state basketball titles over the weekend and achieved another honor Monday when they were named as finalists for the Miss Maine Basketball award.
Joining Guerrette and Veroneau as finalists for Miss Maine Basketball is Kristen Anderson of Leavitt in Turner, while Garet Beal of Jonesport-Beals, John Murray of Medomak Valley in Waldoboro and Mitch Worcester of Washburn were named finalists for Mr. Maine Basketball in an announcement from the Maine Association of Basketball Coaches and local Maine McDonald’s owners and operators.
The winners of the award will be announced at the Maine McDonald’s high school senior all-star awards banquet on Friday at Husson University in Bangor.
The award, the state’s highest basketball honor for a high school senior, recognizes players’ performances on the court as well as their contributions to their team and basketball in the state.
On Saturday, the Maine McDonald’s senior all-star games will be played at Husson with boys and girls contests between East and West Classes A-B and C-D squads.
The boys C-D game is at 9:15 a.m, followed by boys A-B at 11 a.m., girls A-B at 12:45 p.m. and girls C-D at 2:30 p.m.
