HERMON – Leah (Weeks) Sawyer, 94, died March 2, 2013, after a brief illness. Leah was born May 23, 1918, in Corinna, to Fred J. and Elizabeth (Craig) Weeks.
Leah was married to Chester A. Sawyer, May 22, 1937. She was an accomplished homemaker, and an avid knitter and crocheter. Leah loved to garden and watch the birds, but her favorite activity was baking cookies for her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Leah was predeceased by her beloved husband; brothers, Royce and Ira Weeks; grandson, Raymond Goodwin; and great-granddaughter, Rae Ann Coleman. She is survived by her five children, Annie Goodwin and her husband, Richard, of Charleston, Katherine Violette and her partner, Carl Philbrick, of Hancock, Leland Sawyer and his wife, Beverly, of Orrington, Chester Sawyer Jr. and his wife, Carol, of Charleston and Beverly Hartley and her husband, Henry, of Orient; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family thanks her dear friend and neighbor, Marty Noyes for his friendship.
Relatives and friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Monday, March 4, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 5. The family invites relatives and friends to share in conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor, immediately after the service. Spring interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Hermon.
