Pauline ‘Polly’ E. Searway

CAPE ELIZABETH and PORTLAND – Pauline Estelle McGowan Searway, 91, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at Falmouth by the Sea, Falmouth Foreside, where she spent the last several years. She was born Aug. 5, 1921, in Ashland, the daughter of Harry Scott and Vera Junkins McGowan.

She graduated from Ashland High School. Mrs. Searway was a member of Cathedral Church of St. Luke and retired from Maine Medical Center, where she worked in the business office. She lived on Brackett Street, Portland, for many years with her husband and two sons before moving to Cape Elizabeth.

She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, John “Jack” F. Searway Jr., in 1997, of Ashland. They were married at Fort Bragg, Fayetteville, N.C., before he went overseas during World War II. Also predeceasing her were her youngest son, Stephen H. Searway, in 2004; and sister, Gladys E. Alward. She is survived by her son, Scott and daughter-in-law, Janice Searway, of Cumberland Foreside, and their three daughters, Ellen Silver and Andrew of North Potomac, Md., Linda Gervais and Joseph of Portland and Sarah Ledbury and Stephen of Needham Heights, Mass.; and seven great-grandchildren, Owen Scott Gervais, Eliza Anne Gervais, Alexandra Joelle Silver, Mia Isabel Silver, Thomas Richard Ledbury, Megan Mae Ledbury and Matthew Scott Ledbury. Also surviving is daughter-in-law, Nancy Searway of Fort Worth, Texas, and her children, Benjamin and Jack Searway; several close nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held in late spring at Riverside Cemetery, Cape Elizabeth. Arrangements are under the direction of Hobbs Funeral Home, South Portland.
