YARMOUTH, Maine — A girl who was reported missing from Yarmouth on Wednesday was found safe in Massachusetts Thursday, according to police.

Hazel Richards, 18 months, who was allegedly taken from her home by her grandmother, Melanie Weaver, is safe with her biological father, James Richards, in Boston, according to Capt. Craig Smith of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

James Richards had arrived in Boston late Thursday afternoon after flying in from Indiana, according to Smith, and Weaver made the short trek from Yarmouth to Stoneham, Mass., to meet up with her son, Smith said.

The captain said the toddler was unharmed and Richards and Weaver were cooperative with Massachusetts authorities when brought to state police barracks in Medford for questioning.

Smith said charges will not be filed against Weaver and the toddler is in the custody of Richards. The Cumberland County District Attorney’s office is reviewing the case.
