Monticello pedestrian hit by car, charged with failing to yield

BRIDGEWATER, Maine — A 46-year-old Monticello woman suffered minor injuries on Thursday when she walked in front of a car on Bridgewater Corner Road.

Wayne McMinniman, 73, of Fredericton, New Brunswick, was traveling east about 9:50 a.m. in his 2011 Ford sport utility vehicle and was unable to avoid hitting the woman because of slippery road conditions, according to a press release issued Friday by the Maine State Police.

McMinniman made attempts to warn the pedestrian, 46-year-old Debbie Polchies, “but Polchies was intoxicated and could not get out of the roadway in time,” reported Sgt. Joshua Haines in the release.

Polchies suffered minor injuries and was taken by Crown Ambulance to The Aroostook Medical Center in Presque Isle.

She was charged with failing to yield to the right of way before entering into the roadway, according to the release.

No injuries were reported for McMinniman or his passenger, 73-year-old Donna McMinniman. There was minor damage to the vehicle.

Trooper Dan Deschaine investigated the crash.
