RANGELEY, Maine — Recovery efforts for three men missing since December have turned up three snowmobiles this week, but no bodies.

Cpl. John MacDonald of the Maine Warden Service said the three snowmobiles were located with an underwater remotely operated vehicle, or UROV, which was used in the search on Rangeley Lake.

All three machines were operated by the missing men, Kenneth Henderson, 40, of China; Glen Henderson, 43, of Sabattus; and John Spencer, 41, of Litchfield, according to MacDonald.

The three men have been missing since Dec. 30 and are presumed dead, according to MacDonald.

On Jan. 3, sonar images indicated two snowmobiles were in the lake, but that evening, ice on the open water prevented further sonar use. During a Monday search, MacDonald said wardens used the sonar image coordinates and found two of the three snowmobiles, with a third turning up with the UROV on Wednesday.

The sleds were not pulled from the water, the corporal said. The search was conducted in water ranging from 90 to 130 feet deep.

Wardens will continue to search for the bodies Thursday and Friday, according to MacDonald, and if no bodies are located by Friday, recovery efforts will be suspended until spring.
