By Kelly Glista, The Hartford Courant

NORWICH, Conn. — A 35-year-old woman was charged on Tuesday with kidnapping after taking her 4-year-old son from his legal guardian’s home and fleeing to Maine, police said on Tuesday.

Keyett McDonald took the child on Feb. 13, prompting a Silver Alert, police said. She and her son were found in Lewiston, Maine, less than 24 hours later.

At that time, McDonald was arrested as a fugitive from justice and the boy was returned to his legal guardian, police said.

McDonald was arrested Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. and charged with second-degree kidnapping, risk of injury to a minor and second-degree burglary, police said. She is being held on $75,000 bail and is scheduled for arraignment on Wednesday.
