ORONO, Maine — A discussion about drinking too much between two female tenants of The Grove apartment complex turned ugly early Sunday when the roommate said to be intoxicated got upset and assaulted her roommate and her roommate’s boyfriend, Orono police Capt. Josh Ewing said.

The 22-year-old woman called police at about 3:45 a.m. to say “her roommate was out of control,” the police captain said.

The woman who called police reported that she was so frightened, “she locked herself in the bathroom,” Ewing said.

As the two roommates and the boyfriend fought, a glass was broken and the 22-year-old roommate cut her foot, he said.

Rebecca Desimone, 20, who was out on bail for a domestic violence assault from September and had court conditions not to possess or consume alcohol, was gone by the time police arrived at The Grove and “she couldn’t be found,” Ewing said.

Officers contacted her attorney on Tuesday, and Desimone turned herself into police at about 7:20 p.m. that evening. She was charged with two counts of assault and violating her bail conditions and taken to Penobscot County Jail in Bangor, Ewing said.

Desimone was released at court on Wednesday, a jail official said.
