John M. Wentworth

NEWPORT – John Mark Wentworth, 98, died Feb. 24, 2013, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center – Togus. He was born Feb. 3, 1915, in Newport, a son of Mark and Ina (Young) Wentworth.

He graduated from Newport High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II, 1942-1945. Upon returning home he worked for his father at Wentworth’s Garage, Newport. After the garage was sold he worked at Edwards Corp., Pittsfield, and later at the Commissary at the Air National Guard base in Bangor. He was a member of Barrows-Skidgel American Legion, Disabled American Veterans and Knights of Pythias Lodge.

He is survived by a cousin, Frances Stone of Dixmont; and his conservator, Joyce Nelson of Newport.

A spring graveside committal and funeral service will be held in the family lot at Riverside Cemetery, Newport, at a time to be announced. The Rev. Ellen Bridge will officiate. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Newport. Those who wish may leave written condolences at
