SHAPLEIGH, Maine — A Shapleigh man was taken to a Sanford hospital Saturday night after he was injured in a snowmobile crash.

Kevin LaFrance, 37, was traveling across an open field in the area of Back Road in Shapleigh about 8 p.m. when he missed the a snowmobile trail entrance, crashing into trees and then a stone wall, Maine Warden Service spokeswoman Caroline Hailey said Sunday.

Hailey said LaFrance was taken to Goodall Hospital in Sanford for treatment. A Goodall Hospital nursing supervisor said Sunday that LaFrance has been transferred to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where he was listed in fair condition Sunday afternoon.
