SWANVILLE, Maine — A 15-year-old boy suffered injuries Friday in a snowmobile accident on Swan Lake, according to Game Warden Chris Dyer.
The accident happened about 11:15 a.m. when the Searsport youth was riding with two 15-year-old friends, both from Frankfort, on the northern end of the frozen lake.
Dyer said that the track on a 2000 Arctic Cat broke, causing the boy to lose control of the machine, fall off and injure his leg.
All three boys were wearing helmets, and speed was not a factor, according to the warden.
An ice fisherman on the lake witnessed the accident and called for help. Rescue crews from the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office, the Belfast Police Department and Belfast Fire and Ambulance assisted Dyer at the scene.
The teen was taken to Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast, where he was being treated Friday afternoon for his injuries. The injuries were not life-threatening, Dyer said.
