Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Ann Walden

HONOLULU – Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Walden, 77, passed away Feb. 20, 2013. She was born Aug. 28, 1935, in Rockland, the daughter of Frank and Rena Call.

Betty graduated from Orono High School in 1953 and Gorham State Teachers’ College in 1957. She was a first grade teacher for a few years prior to meeting her future husband William Walden, who was an officer in the Navy. They were married in July of 1962 at Mare Island Naval Shipyard and went to Kauai for their honeymoon. She lived in Hawaii for more than 40 years, with 15 years in Volcano on the Big Island, and most of the rest near Hawaii Kai on Oahu. She was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and she loved wired-hair fox terriers. She was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous with 25 years sober.

She is survived by her two sons, John and James Walden; her grandchildren, Nathan and Malia Walden; and her sisters, Rita Desjardins and Sandra Jenness. She was predeceased by her husband, Cmdr. William Walden, U.S. Navy; and her sister, Jayne.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, March 2, at Franklin Hill Foursquare Church, Yakima, Wash. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to www.ALZ.org for Alzheimer’s research. Online tributes may be made at www.tributes.com.
