PORTLAND, Maine — A school bus was damaged by fire Thursday while under repair in the Portland school district’s transportation center.

The bus was parked on the grounds of the Portland Arts and Technology High School, according to a Portland Public Schools statement.

An employee was patching seats using tape, liquid vinyl and a heat gun when the fire broke out. He was not injured, and no children were aboard the bus, according to the statement.

The Portland Fire Department was able to quickly extinguish the fire, the statement said. The five-year-old bus had extensive damage. printed on August 24, 2017
