Semifinalists announced for Mr., Miss Maine Basketball awards

BANGOR, Maine — Twenty top senior boys and girls basketball players moved one step closer to being named Mr. or Miss Maine Basketball on Wednesday when the semifinalists for the award were announced by Maine McDonald’s and the Maine Association of Basketball Coaches.

The award, the state’s highest basketball honor, recognizes the players’ performances on the court, as well as their contributions to their teams and to Maine basketball.

From each boys and girls group of 10 semifinalists, three finalists for the awards will be announced when the basketball tourneys conclude on March 2. The Mr. and Miss Maine Basketball winners will be announced at the Maine McDonald’s High School Senior All-Star banquet on Friday, March 8 at Husson University’s Newman Gymnasium in Bangor.

The 10 Miss Maine Basketball semifinalists are: Jordan Knowlton, Camden Hills of Rockport; Josie Lee, Cony of Augusta; Lauren Crane, Dexter; Kristin Ross, Gorham; Sydney Hancock, Lake Region of Naples; Kristen Anderson, Leavitt of Turner; Jillian Woodward, Orono; Chandler Guerrette, Presque Isle; Martha Veroneau, Waynflete School of Portland; and Emily Campbell, York.

The 10 Mr. Maine Basketball semifinalists are: Anthony DiMauro, Boothbay; Quin Leary, Edward Little of Auburn; Charlie Fay, Falmouth; Evan Worster, Forest Hills of Jackman; Garet Beal, Jonesport-Beals; Spencer Carey, Lawrence of Fairfield; John Murray, Medomak Valley of Waldoboro; Garrett Libby, Old Town; Mitchell Worcester, Washburn and Aaron Todd, York.

The Maine McDonald’s Senior All Star games will be held on Saturday, March 9, at Husson. Tickets are good for all four games and may be purchased at the door. Tickets are $8

Net proceeds from the games benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities of Maine. Last year’s All-Star Weekend raised more than $17,500 for the charity, according to a press release from Maine McDonalds.

The All-Star players, All-Star coaches, members of the All-State Academic teams, regional foul shooting champions, Maine McDonald’s Spirit of the Game Award recipients and the MABC Contributor and Media Award honorees also will be recognized at the awards banquet.
