Farmington hospital to lay off up to 40

By Sun Journal

FARMINGTON, Maine — Franklin Memorial Hospital will lay off as many as 40 people, according to hospital president and CEO Rebecca Ryder.

The Morning Sentinel reports that Ryder talked about the cuts this morning during one of two talks she is having with community leaders Wednesday. Ryder said the cuts will come mostly from nonclinical and other positions.

Franklin Memorial Hospital is a nonprofit organization that in the past fiscal year provided $6.7 million in charity care to patients and provided $58 million in salaries and benefits for the local economy, according to the hospital. It was the first year in many that it operated at a fiscal loss.

The hospital employs more than 850 people.
