Skowhegan man arrested after stealing prescription pills from woman, police say

By Ryan McLaughlin, BDN Staff

WATERVILLE, Maine — A Skowhegan man was behind bars after a Valentine’s Day robbery that turned physical, police said.

Donald Roderick, 35, and his alleged female victim had a common acquaintance and he knew the woman had prescription medication in her High Street apartment, Deputy Chief Charles Rumsey said Tuesday.

Roderick went to the residence at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, stole the drugs and pushed and punched the woman when she tried to stop him, according to Rumsey.

“He knew that the pills were going to be there,” Rumsey said.

Roderick had fled before police arrived, but officers in Skowhegan located him Friday and immediately contacted Waterville detectives, who took him into custody, Rumsey said.

The prescription pills were never recovered, Rumsey said, and Roderick is at the Kennebec County Jail on a Class A charge of robbery.

Roderick’s first court appearance is scheduled for April 9.
