Jeanette M. Withington

BANGOR – Jeanette Marie Withington, 84, passed away peacefully Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, with her family by her side. Jeanette was born Sept. 10, 1928, in Whiting, the daughter of Henry A. and Mary R. Gardner.
She was a 1946 graduate of Rockland High School. After graduating from high school, she met and married Reginald H. Withington in 1949. They resided in Rockland for 10 years before moving to Bangor. She worked for Merrill Bank from 1966 until 1988. She began her career as a savings teller, later moving to the Visa department and was promoted to personal banking officer until she retired. She loved her years in banking making many lifelong friends. After her retirement, Jeanette volunteered at the Attic, but her biggest joy was spending time with her family. She enjoyed yearly trips to Aruba with her daughters, summer family reunions, holiday celebrations, and her grandkids` numerous sporting events. She was their biggest cheerleader. Jeanette will be remembered for her generosity, sense of humor, kind heart, guidance and strong faith. She left a lasting impression with all who knew her because of her indomitable spirit. She will be greatly missed.
She was predeceased by her parents. She is survived by her loving children, Brenda M. Wickware of Bangor, Karen M. DiSalvatore and her husband, Colombo, of Manchester, Conn., Mary Jo Freeman of Glenburn and Bruce H. Withington of Bangor; brothers, Robert Gardner and his wife, Patricia, of Dartmouth, Mass., Richard Gardner and his wife, Signe, of Rockland and Al Gardner of Rockport; and sisters, Joan Legage of Rockland and Marie Savage of Rockland. She was “Nana” to nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, soon to be 11; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend their deep gratitude to the staff at Orono Commons for the extraordinary care and compassion given to Jeanette and her family.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John’s Catholic Church, 207 York St., Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor, immediately after the service Tuesday.
