ORONO, Maine — A 21-year-old University of Maine student was apparently aiming a laser pointer at people on campus early Monday and they called police, according to university spokeswoman Margaret Nagel.

“People noticed a laser light being pointed at them as they walked by” at about 8:05 a.m., she said.

A male student living on the second floor of the Baumann-Nelson House, which is located on Rangeley Road and is used by upperclassmen, was found with the laser by campus police.

“The laser was taken from him and he was referred to judicial affairs,” Nagel said. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
