Bangor Hydro crews were dispatched throughout the company’s service territory Sunday evening in response to several reported power outages caused by high winds and wind gusts.

Among the areas most affected were East Machias, Lubec, Cutler and Stonington, as well as Hampden and Newburgh. A total of 3,317 customers were without power, with the majority of outages in Washington County, where wind gusts were upwards of 50 miles per hour.

By 4 a.m. Monday all but 47 customers had power restored.

Customers are reminded to never touch a downed line or a tree in contact with one, and anyone using an alternate heating source during an outage is urged to follow manufacturer guidelines to ensure proper use and safety.

Questions may be directed to Bangor Hydro’s Customer Service Center at 947-2414 or 800-444-1111.
