Maine men’s basketball need to bring energy, women need to execute on offense against Binghamton, coaches say


Men’s Basketball

Coach Ted Woodward’s keys to the game: “With three of our last four regular-season games on the road, we must bring great energy on the defensive end, get extra possessions by rebounds and low turnovers and execute our offense effectively.”

Game notes: The Black Bears seek their third straight win, and to avenge their buzzer-beating loss to the Bearcats at “The Pit.” UMaine is riding the emotion of Wednesday’s last-second win over Hartford and looks to hang onto fifth place in the standings. Binghamton has lost six in a row since visiting Orono and ranks last in AE games with only 52.8 ppg.

Game notes: The Black Bears are in the midst of a four-game skid, including Wednesday’s 82-56 loss at Hartford. UMaine is relying on a guard-heavy lineup that has shown recent 3-point potential. The Bearcats have lost four in a row, including Wednesday’s 60-57 setback against Stony Brook. UMaine has allowed 69 ppg on 42 percent shooting in conference play.
