BANGOR, Maine — Senior Jordan Knowlton and sophomore Rachel Pease combined to score 35 points and pull down 27 rebounds Friday night, propelling No. 7 Camden Hills to a 54-39 victory over No. 2 Oceanside of Rockland in an Eastern Maine Class B girls’ basketball quarterfinal at the Bangor Auditorium.
The Windjammers (14-6) advance to face No. 3 Nokomis of Newport (18-2) in Wednesday’s 7:05 p.m. semifinal.
Coach Marty Messer’s Camden Hills squad avenged two regular-season defeats at the hands of the Mariners (16-3), including a 63-38 setback on Feb. 7.
The Windjammers used stingy defense to keep Oceanside from establishing any offensive continuity, playing both a 2-3 zone and man-to-man.
Knowlton finished with a game-high 21 points and 14 rebounds to lead Camden Hills, while Pease contributed 14 points and 13 rebounds. Bekah Hilton posted seven points and eight rebounds and Megan Legage added six points and five rebounds.
Emily Gould led the Mariners with 17 points and six rebounds. Kennadi Grover netted 11 points, while Phoebe Ferraiolo hauled down 12 rebounds.
The Windjammers used a 10-0 run to grab the early lead. Pease posted a conventional three-point play, a rebound basket and two foul shots to help her team go on top 10-2.
The Mariners responded with an extended 9-2 run of their own that covered a span of 2:20 late in the period. Grover opened the surge with a jumper and ended it with a six-footer from the lane after an offensive rebound as Oceanside got back within 14-13 with 1:15 left in the quarter.
Oceanside was able to regain the lead only briefly during the second quarter, but Knowlton hit a rebound basket and added a foul shot in the final 1:04 of the half to keep Camden Hills on top 25-23 at halftime.
