Mr. Michael M. Manzo

BEVERLY, MASS. – Mr. Michael M. Manzo, 88, husband of the late Elizabeth J. (Stebbins) Manzo, died Friday morning, Feb. 15, 2013 at his home. Born and raised in Millinocket, he was son of the late Alexander and Ositha (Ouellette) Manzo.
He graduated from Stearns High School in Millinocket, class of 1942 and earned his degree in engineering from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, class of 1950. An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country during World War II as a member of the U.S. Army, having served in New Guinea, Southern Philippines and Luzon. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon with three Service Stars. Mr. Manzo had been employed for more than 35 years as an engineer for General Electric Company until the time of his retirement in 1986. A longtime resident of the City of Beverly, Mass., he was an active member of the Beverly YMCA and an avid bowler and golfer. He enjoyed biking and hiking Mount Katahdin in Maine. Growing up in Northern Maine, he also led guided hikes up Mount Katahdin. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.
Surviving him are three daughters, Jane E. Henebury and her husband, Kevin, of Beverly, Mass., Mary Higgins and her husband, James, of Beverly, Mass., and Elizabeth Feloni and her husband, Michael, of Westwood, Mass.; two sons, Michael Manzo and his wife, Tanja, and Paul Manzo and his wife, Kathleen, all of Beverly, Mass.; 11 grandchildren, Jane Marie Henebury, Patrick Henebury and his wife, Ellie, Michael Henebury and his wife, Kate, Eric Higgins, Kerry Halle and her husband, Chris, Nicholas Manzo, Meggie Manzo, Julia Manzo, Matthew Manzo, Anna Feloni and Maria Feloni; two great-grandchildren, Clyde Henebury and Samuel Henebury; two brothers, Alexander Manzo of Kissimmee, Fla., and Roger Manzo of Wells; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Albert Manzo, Henry Manzo, Kenneth Manzo, Angeline Manzo, Stella Miller, Madeline Fredericks, Ida Manzo, Alice Crowley and Regina Kocur.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, Cabot Street, Beverly, Mass., 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours 4-7 p.m. Monday in the Campbell-Lee, Moody, Russell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot St., Beverly, Mass., North Beverly location. Burial in North Beverly Cemetery.
