AUBURN, Maine — A young boy from Connecticut who was allegedly kidnapped by his mother was found in Auburn on Thursday night, police said Friday.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said the child’s mother, Keyett McDonald, 35, of Norwich, Conn., took 4-year old Yahquin Warren from his grandparents’ Connecticut home Wednesday and headed north.

Warren was in the care of his grandparents, according to McCausland.

Mother and son arrived in Maine on Thursday, the state police spokesman said, and were found in the attic of a Court Street home police believe is owned by McDonald’s brother.

McDonald and Warren were found unharmed and the boy was placed in the custody of the Maine Department of Health and Human Services, McCausland said.

McDonald was placed under arrest on a fugitive from justice charge and taken to Androscoggin County Jail, McCausland said. She is awaiting extradition to Conn., where she will face kidnapping charges.
