ROCKLAND, Maine — Knox County is seeking nominations to fill some seats on its Airport Public Advisory Committee.

The committee is designed to provide a real and visible link between the midcoast communities, the airport manager and the county, according to a news release from Airport Manager Jeffrey Northgraves. The nine-seat committee was specifically tasked to facilitate airport communications flow to and from local communities and citizens, as well as provide aviation, environmental and business advice for airport management, he stated.

The terms for the District 1 seat that represents Owls Head, Rockport, Rockland and South Thomaston; the Knox County Flying Club seat, and another seat reserved for commercial pilots expire this year. Each of the three seats is for a three-year term.

In addition, the District 3 seat that represents Appleton, Camden, Hope, Isle Au Haut, Matinicus, North Haven, Union, Vinalhaven and Washington is vacant. That seat expires in 2015.

The County Commission will fill these seats and are expected to make these appointments during its April 9 meeting.

The Airport Public Advisory Committee and the County Commission are asking for nominations, which should be sent to Northgraves (jnorthgraves@knoxcountymaine.gov) or any current member of the Airport Public Advisory Committee by March 29. The committee will compile these nominations and provide recommendations to the County Commission.

Citizens interested in becoming a member of the committee should notify their town office or organization as soon as possible. In addition, requests to be considered for appointment may be submitted to the county administrator before April 4 or directly to any commissioner before April 9.

The Airport Public Advisory Committee normally meets at 4 p.m. the second Monday of each month in the airport manager’s office.
