Robert H. ‘Magee’ Deschesne

FORT FAIRFIELD – Robert H. “Magee” Deschesne, 75, husband of Carolyn (Howlett) Deschesne, passed away Monday evening, Feb. 11, 2013 at his Fort Fairfield home after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born Dec. 29, 1937, in Fort Fairfield, the son of William J. and Nellie L. (White) Deschesne.
He was a graduate of Fort Fairfield High School, class of 1955 and a lifelong communicant of Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church, Fort Fairfield. Robert was also a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 1753, Fort Fairfield, where he assisted in several capacities including working at the K of C concession stand during the Potato Blossom Festival. Robert was very active in his church and enjoyed serving his parish in many ways over the years. He owned and operated Bob’s Variety in Fort Fairfield for a number of years and most recently had been employed by Aroostook Medical Center, Presque Isle, as a bus driver for their Brain Injury Program. Mr. Deschesne was married to Carolyn Howlett, April 23, 1961, and will be remembered as a wonderful and caring husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother and friend to many.
In addition to his parents, Robert was predeceased by five brothers, William L., Harry T., Michael A., David J. and Philip Deschesne; three sisters, Anita M. Gamblin, Mary Deschesne, Nellie Laughlin. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Carolyn of Fort Fairfield; one son and daughter-in-law, David and Tammy Deschesne of Presque Isle; three daughters and sons-in-law, Robin and Michael Sands of Standish, Kim and Steve Watson, Renee Deschesne, all of Fort Fairfield; four sisters, Shirley Chasse, Jean M. Deschesne, both of Fort Fairfield, Joyce Adams and her husband, Omar Sr., of Beverly Hills, Fla., Valerie Fielder of Presque Isle; three grandchildren, Robert Deschesne II of Washburn, Madison Paige Watson and Dawson Mark Watson, both of Fort Fairfield; numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind a special friend, Ken Ham of South China.
In keeping with Robert’s wishes, calling hours will be private. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church, 147 Main St., Fort Fairfield, with the Rev. Emile Dube celebrant. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held after the Mass at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Council No. 1753, 260 Main St., Fort Fairfield. Interment will take place later in the spring at Green Ridge Cemetery, Caribou.
