BANGOR, Maine — A Sangerville man who used the Internet handle badlittleboy2467 was sentenced Tuesday in U.S. District Court to six years in federal prison for downloading child prornography.

John McKenzie, 46, pleaded guilty in July to possession of child pornography. He has been held without bail since then.

In addition to prison time, U.S. District Judge John Woodcock sentenced McKenzie to five years of supervised release. The judge also ordered McKenzie to pay $25,650 in restitution to four victims, identified by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Images of the four being sexually abused separately by adults or engaged in sexual activity with other children have been disseminated over the Internet.

Recent court rulings have said that adults may seek restitution from individuals charged with viewing images of them being sexually abused as children. The funds most often are used to pay for counseling and medical care to help them recover from the trauma of the sexual abuse, according to a previously published report .

By pleading guilty, McKenzie admitted to morphing the faces of three local children he knew on the body images of children circulated on the Internet who were engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

The girls were 10, 12 and under the age of 18 when the pictures used were taken, according to court documents.

The younger two girls, who still live in Maine, were interviewed and denied any abuse by McKenzie, an FBI affidavit stated.

McKenzie was arrested March 20 and charged with exchanging images of child pornography in September 2010 with an FBI agent in Missouri who was posing as a man interested in sharing images.

In December 2010, Maine law enforcement officers seized McKenzie’s computer and found child pornography on it that he had sent to the FBI agent in Missouri, according to court documents.

McKenzie faced up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
