WINTERPORT – Dorothy C. Whittier, 97, passed away Feb. 10, 2013 at a Bangor healthcare facility. Dorothy was born Dec. 29, 1915, in Winterport, to Ralph and Ruby (Bean) Lane.
Dorothy or better known as Dot was a lifelong resident of Winterport where she was active in many organizations. Dot was a member of the Winterport Methodist Church, where she was known for her beautiful stuffed animals at church fairs. She was coined as a homemaker extraordinaire, a wonderful seamstress, and most notably as the “cookie queen” to family and friends. She was a lifetime member of the Eastern Star as well as the Rebekahs. Dot will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and friend.
Dot is survived by her children, Robert A. Whittier and wife, Margaret, of Winterport, Ruth J. Sigrist and husband, Fred, of Londonderry, N.H., and Judith C. Whittier of Winterport; nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Dot was predeceased by her parents, her husband of 59 years, Ardane R. Whittier; a daughter, Virginia A. Eaton; a brother, Ralph Lane; two sisters, Ruth Peterson and Ruby Gene Grotton; as well as her best friend and sister-in-law, Ginny Clements.
A funeral service celebrating Dot’s life will be held 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, with Pastor Maureen Cipullo officiating. Family and friends are invited to visit 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be in the spring beside her husband at Oak Hill Cemetery, Winterport.
