ELLSWORTH, Maine — Winter Carnival events have been rescheduled for this weekend after Saturday’s blizzard returned snow to Ellsworth in piles. And piles. And piles.
Children’s events, including a cardboard sled race and “human bowling,” were postponed from their originally scheduled date of Feb. 2 after warm weather and rain washed away much of Down East Maine’s accumulated snow.
Ellsworth Recreation Commission member Dawn Hudson said Monday that those events have been rescheduled for Feb. 16.
The Cardboard Sled Race will begin at the Woodlawn Museum on Surry Road, with registration at 9 a.m. Participants must bring a sled made only of cardboard, glue and tape. Other sledders are welcome to come play, but cannot participate in the race.
After the race is over, events will kick-off at the city ice rink at Knowlton Park, including field games, human bowling and a free-skate period. Cadillac Mountain Sports will provide free skate rentals to ice enthusiasts who don’t have their own.
This is Ellsworth’s seventh year hosting a winter carnival.
