MILLINOCKET, Maine — A Millinocket man who violated bail conditions twice in three weeks is back in jail with no bail options due to violations of bail conditions and other charges.

Isaac L. Berube, 23, of Millinocket is in custody at Penobscot County Jail on charges of violation of bail, tampering with a witness/victim, and obstructing the report of a crime.

“A friend of his ex-girlfriend told us that he was violating bail conditions and the ex-girlfriend herself then made us aware of witness tampering actions on his part,” said Millinocket police Sgt. Gary Lakeman, who also is the arresting officer. “I had arrested him for the same violation a couple weeks ago because he was on bail for a theft charge for some metals at Great Lakes Hydro [America in Millinocket].”

Berube was arrested at his parents’ home on Kelly Lane Saturday, Feb. 2.

Late last month, according to Lakeman, the ex-girlfriend made three calls in one night to Millinocket police to complain that she was being harassed by Berube at her home.

“We responded all three times. The third time she admitted he was trying to keep her from making the call,” Lakeman explained. “So I charged him with obstructing the report of a crime.”

Berube was charged with violation of bail conditions stemming from the theft charge and ordered to have no contact with his ex-girlfriend. After being charged with violation of bail, he went to jail and later made bail.

“Then he had contact with her on more than one occasion since then,” Lakeman said. “He was also trying to influence her not to testify against him and lie about what happened.”

Lakeman said Berube has a March 6 court date at Millinocket District Court for the theft charge.

Officers at Penobscot County Jail said Berube is also scheduled to appear at Penobscot Judicial Center in Bangor on Feb. 19 for violation of bail and April 2 for tampering with a victim, a Class B felony.
