AMITY – George A. Moorhouse I, 72, passed away Friday, Feb. 1, 2013. He was born Jan. 11, 1941, in Middletown, Conn., son of George and Edith (Wormwood) Moorhouse.
George grew up in Deep River, Conn. He married Leanna Vivian of Old Saybrook, Conn., in 1958 and moved to Maine in 1973. George’s employment ranged from farming, running his own sanitation business and welding for various employers. In 1979, George moved his family to Massachusetts and went to work for Boston Edison, Plymouth, Mass. This was George’s favorite job, but ended too soon because of his health. He retired back to Amity in 1982. George was a member of East Grand Grange and a longtime member of the Masons. George’s loves included the Masons, the grange, everything outdoors, building something out of nothing and his family.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Leanna (Vivian) Moorhouse; son, George and wife, Leanne of Vero Beach, Fla.; daughters, Vivian “Missy” Tribou and husband, John, and Shelley Murchie and husband, Michael, all of Hodgdon; four grandsons, Matthew Tribou, Joshua Murchie, Josiah Moorhouse and Jonah Moorhouse; great-granddaughter, Kaylana Mai Murchie; brother, Jon Moorhouse and wife, Gail, of Chester, Conn.; two sisters, Leila Saleheen of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Edith McKaig of Sterling, Conn.; numerous nieces and nephews.
