BANGOR – Paul Michael Shannon, 89, died Feb. 1, 2013, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Nov. 27, 1923, in Olamon, to Clarence Desmond Shannon and Grace Belle (Spruce) Shannon.
In 1944 Paul married Alice Mae (Mailman) Shannon. Paul worked for Maine Central Railroad Signal Department for 42 years until his retirement in 1983.
Paul was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Desmond, Earl and John; his sister, Irene Shannon; his oldest son, Michael C. Shannon; and daughter-in-law, Gwen Shannon. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Alice (Mailman) Shannon; their children, Tony Shannon of Wilmington, Del., Rosie and husband, David Tonini, of Dedham, Tommy and wife, Gale, of Lewiston, Celia and husband, Fran Hamblin, of East Nassau, N.Y., Becky and husband, Neil Hagstrom, of Meriden, Conn., and Julie and husband, John Crosby, of Mariam, Mass.; daughter-in-law, Colina (Morrill) Shannon of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.; sisters, Mary Ruth Conley, Barbara Farnham and Julia Turner; 19 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, countless nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to call 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John’s Catholic Church, York Street, Bangor.
