Jonesport-Beals’ Garet Beal passes father’s career scoring mark

JONESPORT — Jonesport-Beals senior Garet Beal passed his father’s career scoring mark at the school when he scored 26 points to reach 1,607 in an 82-50 schoolboy basketball victory over the Vinalhaven Vikings Saturday.

Beal’s father, Lindell Beal, set the scoring mark of 1,605 25 years ago. He died in July at age 43. Garet Beal passed the scoring mark in the first half.

In Saturday’s game, the Royals jumped out to a 33-11 first-quarter lead to roll to the victory. Kasden Beal added 13 points, Sterling Beal put in 12 and Marcus Smith netted 11 points and had 15 rebounds

Shane Carlson paced Vinalhaven with 26 points.
