WHITING – Viena Doyle Crosby, 100, passed away peacefully Jan. 31, 2013, at her daughter’s residence in North Carolina. She was born June 24, 1912, at Cool Spring, Horry County, South Carolina, to the late Henry Doyle and Bessie Rabon Doyle.
She was a longtime faithful member of Whiting Community Church. She loved being a homemaker, caring for her family, teaching Sunday school and visiting with shut-ins. She was a member of Whiting Quilting Club, which she enjoyed for many years until she was nearly 90 years old. At 95 she was the oldest resident in Whiting before she moved to North Carolina.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased exactly 16 years to the day by her beloved husband, Harold W. Crosby Sr.; a granddaughter, Sarah Crosby of Whiting; three brothers, Favious, Gene, and RE; four nieces and one nephew. Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Dr. Harold W. Crosby Jr. and wife, Carey, of Whiting; her grandson, Will Crosby of Whiting; her daughter, Elizabeth Michael and her husband, Jesse, of Hickory, N.C.; two sisters, Alene Huggins of Loganville, Ga., and Genevieve Bestermann of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visiting hours will be held noon until the time of funeral service 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, at McClure Funeral Home, corner of Charles and Drisko streets, Machias, with Pastor John Sprague officiating. Burial will be afterward at Whiting Village Cemetery. Jenkins Funeral Home, Newton, N.C., and McClure Family Funeral Services, Machias, are serving the family.
