MILLINOCKET – Nellie (Taylor) Werner, 97, passed Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, at a local health care facility. Nellie, born Feb. 22, 1915, in Millinocket, was the last surviving member of George and Sarah (Fellows) Taylor.
Nellie moved from Millinocket to New Jersey as a teenager, where she met and married William Werner in 1937. Together they celebrated 45 years of marriage and one daughter. Nellie was basically a wife, mother and homemaker. In 1954 she went to work for Irving Trust Co. in New York. Nellie worked there 15 years, becoming a supervisor for Locater File Department. During that time she also became a member of Order of the Eastern Star. Her husband suffered a brain aneurysm in 1971 and Nellie devoted her time with caring for her husband until his death in 1982.
Nellie is survived by three grandchildren, Edward H. Lax, Linda Lax and her significant other, Todd MacDonald, and Steven Lax and his wife, Lynn; and one great-grandchild, Edward S. Lax. In addition to her parents, Nellie was predeceased by her daughter, Alyce Maragus; and 10 siblings, Charles, William, Dorothy Hansen, Ralph, Grace, Alice Lowell, George, Barbara “Maxine,” Norma and Elmot.
