ROCKLAND, Maine — A 29-year-old Maine State Prison inmate will be spending an additional eight months behind bars for possessing drugs.

Jonathan Thibodeau was sentenced on Tuesday in Knox County Superior Court by Justice Jeffrey Hjelm for possession of prison contraband.

Following up on a tip, corrections officers in February 2012 recovered from Thibodeau three balloons containing four strips of Suboxone as well as 1.3 grams of Suboxone powder. Suboxone is used to treat people with opiate addictions.

Thibodeau admitted to prison authorities that he paid $400 for the drugs but would not reveal his source, according to Assistant District Attorney Christopher Fernald.

The prosecutor asked for the eight months, saying the amount of drugs found on Thibodeau was more than just a single pill as is sometimes the case.

Thibodeau was serving a six-year prison term for a robbery in Lewiston in 2010. With the added time, his release date is January 2018.
