BELFAST, Maine — A man was arrested this weekend after being accused of using an ax to destroy a computer that a woman was using.

Steven D. Wescott, 42, of Union had been drinking, police said, when he got into an argument at about 6:15 p.m. Saturday with a woman at a Searsport Avenue residence.

“He came into the room where she was, holding an ax,” Detective Sgt. Bryan Cunningham of the Belfast Police Department said Monday.

Though Wescott did not specifically threaten the woman with the ax, she had been using his computer and he did not want her to do that, Cunningham said.

“So, he smashed it with the ax,” he said.

The woman called police, and officers charged Wescott with domestic violence terrorizing.

He was taken to Waldo County Jail in Belfast to be booked.
